Abstract

Islamic finance has existed in Morocco since 2007, but its real launch occurred in 2017, following the authorization of participatory banks to operate in the Moroccan financial market. Since then, this new industry has experienced remarkable growth, and participatory products, particularly the Murbaha product, have become increasingly competitive.

This article serves two purposes: firstly, it provides a brief overview of participatory finance in Morocco and its evolution since 2017; and secondly, it conducts a comparative study of the cost of participatory products and their conventional counterparts.
